I\u2019m Codi Vallery-Mills and I’ve had a passion for words since attending a young author\u2019s workshop in third grade.<\/p>\n
This website serves as a holding spot for my writings through The Cattle Business Weekly and those ramblings that happen in the hours between my desk job and our family’s ranch work. So you will find a little bit of randomness to this website’s content, but the three things that have been mainstays in my life have been agriculture, writing and books. You will find all three here.<\/p>\n
Raised in a diversified farm ranch operation by a storytelling family I have an\u00a0appreciation for agriculture and writing both. With that knowledge, I\u00a0attended South Dakota State University graduating with a degree in Agricultural Journalism. Through the years I have written for several small community newspapers, large daily newspapers and agricultural trade magazines. Currently, I am a freelance writer for ag trade publications and editor of The Cattle Business Weekly Newspaper\u00a0<\/em>in South Dakota.\u00a0You may have also seen my work in the Argus Leader, Working Ranch Magazine, BEEF Magazine, Nebraska Farmer, \u00a0and Progressive Cattleman.<\/p>\n My husband and I are currently the fifth generations on my family’s ranch. Our daughter,\u00a0who became a cattlewoman at the age of 3, makes the sixth generation. We operate a commercial cow\/calf herd and custom background cattle.<\/p>\n In November 2014 I added the title of children’s author to my resume with the publishing of my first kid’s book Husker the Mule: A Birthday Present.<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>A second book Husker the Mule: Does His Chores<\/a> came out in 2016. Husker the Mule: Adventure Awaits<\/a> was released November 2018.
